Club Lloyds Silver: packaged account benefits, fees and eligibility

Club Lloyds Silver is a packaged current account that adds travel insurance, AA breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance to a Club Lloyds account, for a monthly fee. Here is what the cover includes, who it excludes, how the fee and the Club Lloyds refund work, how to switch, and what to do if something goes wrong.

Club Lloyds Silver: packaged account benefits, fees and eligibility, with the Lloyds logo

Club Lloyds Silver is a packaged current account from Lloyds Bank. It works like a Club Lloyds account, with the same monthly fee and the same refund if you pay in enough each month, and adds a bundle of insurance and breakdown benefits on top. Lloyds puts the average annual value of the Silver account's insurance benefits at £318, against £138 a year for the account1.

The benefits are European and UK family travel insurance up to age 65, AA Breakdown Family Cover with Roadside Assistance, and mobile phone insurance2. You also choose one lifestyle benefit each year, from 12 months of Disney+, six cinema tickets, an annual digital Coffee Club and Gourmet Society membership, or an annual magazine subscription1.

The account is one of three Club Lloyds tiers. Club Lloyds is the entry account, Club Lloyds Silver adds the insurance package, and Club Lloyds Platinum adds worldwide travel cover and a wider breakdown package3. This page covers what Silver includes, what it costs, who it excludes, and how to switch.

What Club Lloyds Silver includes

The account is a full current account first and a benefits package second. It comes with a debit card, mobile and online banking, and access to four savings accounts that are only open to Club Lloyds customers: Club Lloyds Monthly Saver, Club Lloyds Advantage Saver, Club Lloyds Advantage ISA Saver and Club Lloyds Saver2.

On top of that sit the packaged benefits. Lloyds lists mobile phone insurance, AA Roadside Assistance, AA At Home and National Recovery, European and UK family travel insurance, and worldwide family travel insurance across its packaged range, with the tier you hold deciding which apply4. On Silver specifically, the travel cover is European and UK only, and the breakdown cover is AA Breakdown Family Cover with Roadside Assistance3.

The lifestyle benefit is separate from the insurance. You pick one option each year, and Lloyds says the benefits could be worth over £133 a year2. They are administered on Lloyds Bank's behalf by a third party2.

How the monthly fees work and when the Club Lloyds fee is refunded

Club Lloyds Silver carries two charges that behave differently. The Silver fee is the price of the packaged benefits. The Club Lloyds fee is the charge for the underlying Club Lloyds account, and it is refundable.

Check the current figures on the provider's site before you apply, because the provider's site has today's figures.

What is consistent is the refund rule. The higher tier works the same way at a larger scale: Club Lloyds Platinum is £15 a month, refunded each month you pay in £5,000 or have £100,000 saved or invested with Lloyds5.

European and UK family travel insurance: what it covers and who it excludes

The travel cover on Silver is a multi-trip policy for the account holder and their family, subject to eligibility6. It is administered by Allianz Assistance and underwritten by AWP P&C SA1.

Lloyds also states baggage cover of up to £2,500 with £500 for valuables on the Silver account page6. One Lloyds page refers to baggage cover of up to £5,000, which conflicts with the £2,500 figure given elsewhere, so treat the lower figure as the one to check.

Eligibility is narrower than the limits suggest. Cover is only available to UK residents who are registered with a doctor in the UK and who start and end their trips in the UK, which includes the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man1. The age limit is the sharpest exclusion: all cover ceases on the account holder's 65th birthday1. While the account holder is under 65, the cover extends to their spouse, partner or civil partner6. Club Lloyds Platinum runs to the account holder's 80th birthday instead5.

AA breakdown cover and the other packaged benefits

The breakdown benefit on Silver is AA Breakdown Family Cover with Roadside Assistance, provided by the AA1. Lloyds values it at £59 a year on average, calculated in June 20261. The same £59 figure appears on the standalone Lloyds Bank Silver Current Account page6. For comparison, the Platinum tier's breakdown cover is valued at £67 a year on average7.

The cover has a clear geographic limit. The service is only available in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man1. A separate AA Accident Assist service is narrower still: it operates only in England, Wales and mainland Scotland, and is not available for motorbikes or mopeds1.

There are vehicle exclusions too. There is no cover when travelling in a car, van, minibus or motorcycle exceeding 3.5 tonnes in weight and 8ft 3in (2.55m) in width, for business or commercial vehicles, or for road traffic accidents where the AA will not recover the vehicle1.

Mobile phone insurance completes the package. Lloyds lists it across its packaged accounts4. The insurance benefits are supplied by third parties, with the AA providing the breakdown cover3.

Changes to the Silver insurance cover from December

The travel insurance and mobile phone insurance that come with Club Lloyds Silver change on 1 December 2026. Lloyds states that the policies provided with the account will change, with changes to policy cover and terms and conditions1. The same date applies to the Platinum account, where the travel insurance provided through Allianz Assistance and the mobile phone insurance provided through Lifestyle Services Group change policy cover and terms and conditions8.

If you already hold the account, the practical effect is that the cover you have now is not the cover you will have after that date. Lloyds directs customers to read the Guide to Changes during application on the Platinum page7, and the equivalent material applies to Silver. Anyone weighing up the account, or relying on the travel or phone cover for a trip or a claim, should read the new terms before 1 December 2026 rather than assume the current limits carry over.

Credit interest, overdrafts and everyday card use

Overdrafts on Club Lloyds accounts are interest-charged rather than fee-charged, and the unarranged side is free of charges. Lloyds states there is no unarranged overdraft interest, fees or charges on Club Lloyds Silver1, and the same wording appears on Club Lloyds2 and Club Lloyds Platinum5.

The arranged overdraft is priced by interest. Lloyds gives an example of £17.20 for 60 days when borrowing £500 on the Club Lloyds account2. All overdrafts are subject to application and repayable on demand, and you must be 18 or over to apply2.

On card use abroad, Lloyds states there are no debit card fees from the bank on Club Lloyds Silver1. The Club Lloyds page puts it more broadly: wherever you are, Lloyds will not charge you for using your debit card2. The bank's own fee is nil on Club, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Premier, Student and Graduate debit cards9. That does not stop an overseas cash machine operator or a merchant's bank adding its own charge, and paying in pounds sterling overseas can still attract a charge from the provider5.

Who can open Club Lloyds Silver and how to switch

Club Lloyds Silver is a current account, so the usual requirements apply: you need to be 18 or over to apply for an overdraft2, and you need the identity documents any UK bank asks for. The account can be held in a sole or joint name, and switching through the Current Account Switch Service applies to both8.

Switching takes 7 working days, according to Lloyds1. The Current Account Switch Service moves your balance, your Direct Debits and your incoming payments, and redirects payments sent to the old account for a period afterwards. You give your existing account details when you apply8. Lloyds describes the process as simple, reliable and stress-free10.

You must switch at least three active direct debits, and the switch must go through the Current Account Switch Service1. The offer ends on 9 December 20261. It is not available to anyone who has received a switching offer since 1 January 2023 for switching to any Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax account4.

If you are switching to qualify, the direct debits need to be active on the new account, not just set up.

Is a packaged account worth paying for?

A packaged account bundles insurance and other benefits with a current account and charges a fee for them11. The question is whether the cover is one you would use, and whether the fee is less than you would pay for equivalent cover bought separately.

Lloyds puts the average annual value of the Silver account's insurance benefits at £318, against £138 a year for the account1. The same £318 figure appears on the standalone Silver account page6. An earlier Lloyds page, dated July 2025, gives £332 for the same benefits3. The two figures differ, so the average value is unclear. The Platinum tier is valued at £682 against £270 a year7.

Independent guidance from Independent Age notes that packaged accounts may charge a fee, or require a minimum amount paid in each month to qualify for the benefits12. That second condition is the one that catches people out: the benefits depend on meeting the payment threshold, not just on holding the account.

The Financial Ombudsman Service has published case studies on packaged accounts, including one where a consumer complained that a packaged bank account was mis-sold, and one where a bank upgraded an account without permission11. Both illustrate the same point: the benefits only have value if you knew you had them and could use them.

The trade-off a reader is weighing: one monthly fee against three separate policies.

How your money is protected and where to complain

Eligible money held with Lloyds is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme14. The scheme covers eligible deposits if the bank fails. Lloyds current accounts are provided by Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland, both part of Lloyds Banking Group14, and the brands share protection limits, so money held across them counts together towards the same limit.

If something goes wrong with the account, complain to Lloyds first. If the complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which is free and independent. The ombudsman has published case studies on packaged accounts being mis-sold and on accounts being upgraded without permission11, which show the kind of complaint it will look at.

On fraud, Lloyds states that it will be more likely to refund you if you lose money to a scam if you do everything you can to protect your accounts15. That is a condition, not a guarantee, and it puts the emphasis on how you handled the payment as well as on what the scammer did.

Frequently asked questions

Does the travel insurance stop at a certain age?

Yes. On Club Lloyds Silver, all cover ceases on the account holder's 65th birthday. The cover runs for the account holder and, while they are under 65, their spouse, partner or civil partner. Club Lloyds Platinum, the higher tier, keeps travel cover running until the account holder's 80th birthday. If you are close to 65, the age limit is worth checking before you rely on the account for a trip.

Do I need to switch direct debits to get the switching offer?

The £200 offer for switching to a new Club Lloyds Silver account requires at least three active direct debits, and the switch must be made through the Current Account Switch Service. The offer ends on 9 December 2026. Anyone who has already received a switching offer since 1 January 2023 for a Lloyds, Bank of Scotland or Halifax account is excluded.

Does Club Lloyds Silver charge for using my debit card abroad?

Lloyds states there are no debit card fees from the bank on Club Lloyds Silver when you use the card abroad. That covers the bank's own charges, not what an overseas cash machine operator or a merchant's bank might add. Paying in pounds sterling while abroad can still attract a charge from the overseas provider.

Which lifestyle benefit can I choose with Club Lloyds Silver?

You choose one lifestyle benefit each year from 12 months of Disney+, six cinema tickets, an annual digital Coffee Club and Gourmet Society membership, or an annual magazine subscription. Lloyds says the benefits could be worth over £133 a year. They are administered by Blackhawk Network EMEA Limited on behalf of Lloyds Bank.

Is AA breakdown cover valid outside the UK?

No. The AA Breakdown Family Cover on Club Lloyds Silver is only available in the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The separate AA Accident Assist service is narrower still: it operates only in England, Wales and mainland Scotland, and is not available for motorbikes or mopeds. If you drive in Europe, this benefit will not help you there.

How long does switching to Club Lloyds Silver take?

Lloyds says a switch through the Current Account Switch Service takes 7 working days. The service moves your balance, your Direct Debits and your incoming payments, and redirects payments sent to the old account for a period afterwards. You can switch a sole or a joint account, and you give your existing account details when you apply.

Is a packaged account worth paying for?

That depends on whether you would use the cover. Lloyds puts the average annual value of the Silver account's insurance benefits at £318, against £138 a year for the account. Independent guidance from Independent Age notes that packaged accounts may charge a fee, or require a minimum monthly payment in, to qualify for the benefits. Buying cover separately may suit some people better.

How is my money protected and where do I complain?

Eligible money held with Lloyds is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. If a complaint about the account is not resolved, you can take it to the Financial Ombudsman Service, which is free and independent. The ombudsman has published case studies about packaged accounts being mis-sold and about accounts being upgraded without permission.
