About Financial.org.uk

Financial.org.uk is an independent guide to money in the UK: bank accounts and savings, borrowing, homes, pensions and investing, insurance, tax and benefits, and your rights when things go wrong.

Why it exists

Information about money is spread across government sites, regulators, ombudsmen, charities and the firms themselves, and much of it is selling something. We bring the facts together in plain English so you can make your own decisions.

Who pays for it

No bank, lender, insurer or other firm pays to appear here or to be written about, and none has any say over what we write. We do not rank, rate or recommend providers or products.

Where the facts come from

Every figure and claim is cited to its source, and we put official and independent sources first: HM Treasury, HMRC and other government departments, the FCA, the Bank of England, the Financial Ombudsman Service, the FSCS, MoneyHelper, Citizens Advice and debt charities. Product pages describe how a product works and its standing terms; today's rates and offers are on the provider's own site. The sources for each page are listed at the end of it.

How the pages are made

Pages are researched from those sources. Before a page is published, automated checks test what it says against its sources and turn back anything they cannot support. We keep a stored copy of every source a page cites, so each claim can be traced.

Pictures

Photographs and diagrams are made for this site. People shown are not real and are not customers of any firm. Firms' logos appear only to identify them.

Not advice

What you read here is general information, not financial, tax, legal or investment advice. For a decision about your own situation, speak to a regulated adviser or one of the free services we list on each page.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, please tell us through the contact page. We check every report against the sources and correct the page when it is wrong.
