Monzo Perks: what you get, what it costs and how to cancel

Monzo Perks is a paid add-on to a Monzo current account that bundles partner offers such as a weekly Greggs item, a Vue cinema ticket each month and an annual Railcard, for a monthly fee. Here is what it includes, who can get it, how the charge is taken, what happens if you cancel, and how your money is protected.

Monzo Perks: what you get, what it costs and how to cancel, with the Monzo logo

Monzo Perks is one of the paid plans you can add to a Monzo current account. Monzo describes the partner perks as worth over £300 a year1.

It sits in the middle of three plans. Perks includes everything in Extra, plus the partner perks1.

Perks is not a bank account in its own right. It is a subscription attached to a Monzo personal current account, and the benefits stop if the plan is cancelled or the monthly payment fails. This page covers what is included, who can get it, how the charge is taken, how to sign up and cancel, and how your money is protected.

What Monzo Perks includes: Railcard, Greggs, Vue and more

The partner perks are the reason most people look at Perks. Monzo's terms list a selected drink or snack from Greggs each week, an annual Railcard from Trainline if you are eligible, one Vue cinema ticket per month, a YouTube Premium Lite membership and an Uber One membership2. The Vue benefit is described as one free ticket every month plus 10% off food and non-alcoholic drinks, with exclusions6.

Alongside the partner offers, Perks carries the features that come with Extra. That includes seeing your other bank accounts and credit cards inside the Monzo app through Connected banks, seeing your credit score in the app through Credit insights, and access to advanced budgeting tools2. Connected accounts are available with Extra, Perks or Max, and on the older Plus and Premium plans5.

Perks also brings a higher interest rate on Savings Pots and a discounted fee on Monzo Investments and Pension2. The plan includes entry into the Billsback prize draw, which you can opt out of at any time in the app2. Virtual cards are part of the paid plans too: with Perks you can hold up to 5 live virtual cards at any time, and link them to a Regular Pot to pay subscriptions and recurring card payments straight from the Pot balance9.

The card itself is a blue coral Monzo Perks card11.

The Perks benefits are listed inside the Monzo app, where the plan is also set up and cancelled.

How the monthly charge works

Perks is billed monthly at £91. The charge is separate from anything else on the account, and you choose which balance or Pot it comes from. Monzo lets you set this up from the Plan homepage through Settings and the "Pay from" account, from the Payments tab under "Scheduled" through "Subscriptions and Direct Debits", or from a Bills Pot through "Scheduled Payments" and "Select existing payments"12.

If the Pot you have chosen does not hold enough to cover the payment, Monzo also attempts to take it from your main balance12. If the money still is not there, the terms set out what happens next: Monzo tries to take the payment each day for 7 days, and if there is still not enough in your main available balance or your chosen Pot after 7 days, it cancels the Perks plan and removes access to all the benefits2.

That is the point worth understanding before signing up. A failed payment is not simply a missed direct debit that gets retried next month. It ends the plan and the perks with it. Monzo's guidance for anyone in that position is to get in touch right away through app chat if they are having financial difficulties13.

Who can get Perks

Perks is open to people aged 18 or over who are UK residents, and the terms and conditions apply3. You also need to be a Monzo personal current account customer, because the plan attaches to that account rather than standing alone1.

There is one further condition: if you are behind on Flex or loan repayments, you cannot sign up to Extra, Perks or Max4. Monzo plans are only available to people over 184.

The plans differ in age limits at the top end. Max is open to people aged 18 to 69, while Extra and Perks carry the 18+ requirement without the upper limit14. If you are outside the eligibility rules, the app will not let you complete the sign-up.

Perks is one of three plans currently sold, alongside Extra and Max1. Two older plans, Plus and Premium, are no longer sold. Existing holders can keep them and carry on using the benefits, but cannot sign back up after cancelling or moving to a new plan15.

Cash withdrawals abroad and cash deposits

Two allowances matter most in day-to-day use: taking cash out abroad and paying cash in.

Inside the EEA there are no fees on cash withdrawals2. For comparison, Extra gives £0 up to £200 in a rolling 30-day period outside the EEA, then 3% after that5.

On deposits, Perks gives 3 free cash deposits each calendar month with participating partners, then £1 for any extra deposits in the same month, taken from the money paid in2. The same 3 free deposits figure appears across the plan comparison1.

Cheques can be paid in through the app, and cheques up to £500 can be paid in via mobile banking, with cheques above £500 sent in by post18.

How to sign up for Perks in the Monzo app

Sign-up happens inside the app. Monzo's help page says you can sign up for Extra, Perks or Max by tapping a link in the app3. There is no branch or phone application route: Monzo's own service information records that sending money within the UK and checking your balance are not possible by telephone, and are handled through mobile banking, which runs 24 hours18.

The steps are:

  1. Open the Monzo app and go to the plan sign-up link3.
  2. Choose Perks from the plans on offer1.
  3. Confirm your eligibility, which requires being 18 or over, a UK resident and not behind on Flex or loan repayments3.
  4. Choose which balance or Pot the £9 monthly payment comes from12.

If you are new to Monzo altogether, you would open a current account first. Monzo's current account is free to open20. The bank's own service information says debit cards arrive on average in 3 days, and that internet banking access is available the same day for 100% of customers18.

A plan is added from inside the app, and the monthly payment is assigned to a balance or Pot.

Cancelling or moving to a different plan

There is a 14-day cooling off period. If you change your mind in the first 14 days of getting Perks, you can cancel or switch to a lower plan and get a refund of the monthly payment2.

Outside the cooling off period, the Railcard fee works differently. The anniversary falls every 12 months after the date you got Perks2. There is a way to avoid it: if you move from Perks to Max and do not cancel Max before the date your Perks anniversary would have been on, no Railcard fee applies2.

Monzo may also refund a Railcard cancellation fee if you take out Perks or Max within 30 days2.

Cancelling the plan itself is done through a link on Monzo's help page13. If you are moving between plans rather than leaving, upgrades work in your favour: you can upgrade from Plus or Premium to Extra, Perks or Max at any time without a cancellation fee, and Monzo refunds the remaining days in the month you cancelled21. Any connected banks and credit cards, virtual cards or custom categories move over to the new plan with you22.

Complaints, help and FSCS protection

Monzo is a fully regulated UK bank and eligible deposits are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme up to £120,000 per person23. It appears on the Bank of England list of banks incorporated in the UK authorised to accept deposits24, and on the FCA Register under firm reference number 73042725. The company is active and was incorporated on 18 February 201526.

That protection covers deposits. It does not cover the value of the partner perks, and it does not apply to investments in the same way: Monzo states that FSCS protection for investment accounts covers the loss of funds if Monzo or its custodian or platform providers fail27. Under 16s accounts also carry FSCS protection28.

On service, Monzo's own published information records 0 major operational or security incidents in the quarter from 1 April 2026 to 30 June 2026, and 4 incidents in the 12 months to 30 June 2026, including 2 affecting mobile banking and 1 affecting internet banking18. The bank provides 24/7 service on all activities for urgent queries18. Support runs through in-app chat rather than branches19.

If something goes wrong with a payment, Monzo's guidance on authorised push payment fraud says it will reimburse eligible claims within 5 business days, or up to 35 business days for more complex cases, up to a maximum of £85,000, and that it may not pay the first £100 of a claim29. If you are unhappy with the outcome, you can take the complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service29. For small claims, Monzo points customers to Citizens Advice30.

On security, Monzo advises avoiding public wifi for mobile or online banking, because the majority of public wifi networks are not securely encrypted and are not private, and recommends using mobile data on your 4G or 5G network instead31. The bank also offers a "Share with us" tool that lets customers discreetly disclose confidential information32.

If you are struggling to pay for a plan, Monzo's guidance is to get in touch right away through app chat13. Free, impartial help is also available from MoneyHelper and from debt advice charities.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a Monzo current account to get Perks?

Yes. Perks is a paid plan added to a Monzo personal current account, not a standalone product. You need to be a Monzo customer, aged 18 or over and a UK resident, and you cannot be behind on Flex or loan repayments. The plan is set up from inside the Monzo app rather than through a separate application.

Can I cancel Monzo Perks and get my money back?

If you change your mind within the first 14 days, known as the cooling off period, you can cancel or move to a lower plan and get a refund of the monthly payment. If you have ordered a Perks card, Monzo charges £5. If you have ordered a Railcard, the charge is £25. Outside the cooling off period, cancelling stops future monthly payments rather than refunding past ones.

What happens to my Railcard if I leave Perks?

If you cancel or move to a lower plan before your next Perks anniversary, and a Railcard was ordered in the same year, Monzo charges a Railcard cancellation fee. The terms put this at £2.09 a month for each month left until that anniversary. If you move from Perks to Max and do not cancel Max before the date your Perks anniversary would have fallen, no Railcard fee applies.

Does a joint account share the Perks withdrawal allowance?

Fee-free cash withdrawals apply on a joint account if you and the other holder are on Extra, Plus, Premium, Perks or Max. Joint savings rates work differently: if both holders are on the same plan, the joint Pot earns the same rate as personal savings, and if you are on different plans the lower plan rate applies. Cashback earned on joint spending is paid into your own cashback balance.

What happens if the Perks payment fails?

If there is not enough money in your main balance or the Pot you chose to pay from, Monzo tries to take the payment each day for 7 days. If the money still is not there after 7 days, Monzo cancels the Perks plan and removes access to all the benefits. Getting in touch through app chat is the route Monzo gives for anyone struggling to pay.

Can Monzo change or end the Perks plan?

Monzo can cancel your Perks plan by giving you at least 2 months' notice. The bank has also retired plans before: Plus and Premium are no longer sold, and existing holders can keep them and carry on using the benefits but cannot sign back up after cancelling or moving to a new plan. Perks, Extra and Max are the plans currently sold.

Is money in a Monzo account with Perks protected?

Monzo is a fully regulated UK bank and eligible deposits are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. Monzo appears on the Bank of England list of UK banks authorised to accept deposits, and on the FCA Register as authorised since 10 August 2016. Protection covers deposits, not the value of the partner perks themselves.
