Zempler Cashback

Zempler pays cashback on its business credit card, not on its personal current accounts, and personal current accounts are temporarily closed to new applicants. Here is what the bank offers, how its charges work, how to apply, and what protection applies to your money.

Zempler Cashback, with the Zempler Bank logo

Zempler Bank is a UK bank that offers personal current accounts, business current accounts, a credit card and a Euro travel currency card. If you have arrived here looking for a Zempler cashback current account, the first thing to know is that cashback is a feature of the Zempler business credit card, not of the personal current accounts. Cashback is paid automatically to the credit card each month and appears as a credit transaction on your monthly statement1.

The second thing to know is that Zempler's personal current accounts are temporarily closed to new applications2. Existing customers can keep using their accounts, and business accounts remain open to applications. Anyone searching for a Zempler cashback plan today is most likely looking at the business credit card, or at a personal account they already hold.

This page sets out what Zempler offers, how its charges work, who can apply, how to bank with it, and what happens if something goes wrong. Zempler's own site carries today's figures for fees, limits and cashback rates.

What Zempler offers personal and business customers

Zempler runs two sides of the business. On the personal side there is a current account with add-ons, a credit card, a Creditbuilder product and a Euro travel currency card. On the business side there are current accounts with credit add-ons including overdrafts and credit cards5.

The personal current account is built around add-ons rather than a single bundled package. Zempler describes it as something you customise with useful add-ons and features, available if you need them2. Those add-ons include international payments, overdrafts and the travel currency card2.

The credit card is accepted at 26 million locations around the world6. It comes with a monthly statement through the app and Online Banking unless you have asked for it by post, plus an annual statement once a year in the month the account was opened. Automatic payments can be set for the whole statement balance, the minimum payment, or a set amount3.

The Creditbuilder product is a separate arrangement aimed at building a credit history. It requires 12 monthly payments of £5.95, and Zempler states that you must be able to afford to make all of them on time, because missing a payment can harm your credit score7. While Creditbuilder is active you cannot change your Zempler account, and you must close it by paying it off in full8.

International payments are handled through a partnership with Wise Platform, and the service is available to both business and personal account holders9. Any international payment received into your account is converted to GBP9.

Add-ons: overdrafts, international payments and travel currency

The overdraft is attached to your current account and Zempler describes it as a temporary safety net if you run low on funds12. On the personal side it is offered as an add-on to eligible customers, and Zempler says it can help build your credit score5. Business customers have a wider set of credit add-ons, including overdrafts and credit cards5.

The Euro travel currency card works alongside your main account. You must have received and activated your Zempler Bank account card before you can order one, and you order it in the app or in Online Banking11. You top it up by transferring money onto the card in the app or in Online Banking, and you can see transactions and balances in real time11. Zempler says the card can be used to control employee expenses or to stick to a holiday budget11.

On foreign transaction fees, Zempler states that adding a Euro travel currency card to its Activeplus account means spending abroad with no foreign transaction fees10. Cash withdrawals in euros cost €4 in the UK and are free abroad11.

International payments run through Wise Platform. You cannot set up scheduled international payments, because exchange rates change constantly throughout the day13. Zempler says it plans to expand its international payment options to include additional currencies in the future13. No fees are charged by Zempler for returned payments, though the sender may receive less than they sent because of fees applied elsewhere9.

The Euro travel currency card is ordered and topped up in the app or in Online Banking11.

How Zempler's charges work

Zempler publishes terms and conditions and fee information sheets for each of its bank accounts, and those documents, rather than this page, carry the current figures5. What can be said here is how the charging structure is put together.

The Activeplus account charges nothing for receiving money, which is free and unlimited on both the standard and Freedom versions10. Sending money is free for three payments and transfers a month on Activeplus Freedom, with 99p charged after that10. Cash withdrawals are free in the UK and free outside the UK on Activeplus10.

On the credit card, interest is charged on the late payment fee if you do not pay it off within 30 days3. If you make only the minimum or a partial payment, you lose your interest free period and interest is charged from the date of purchase until the balance is repaid in full3. Cash advances have interest charged from the date of the transaction3. Zempler does not accept cheque, credit card or cash payments towards the card3.

Standing orders can be set up as a one off future payment, repeated until a date, repeated for a number of payments, or repeated until cancelled14. The bank does not pay interest on its personal current accounts, and states this on both its main personal account page and its Activeplus page2.

Who can apply, and why personal accounts are closed to new applicants

Zempler's personal current accounts are temporarily closed to new applications2. The same wording appears on the Activeplus page and on the switching help page, so it applies across the personal range rather than to one product10.

Business accounts are a different matter. Zempler offers business current accounts with credit add-ons, and sole traders using a personal account who need higher cash deposit limits are pointed towards a business account instead15.

For the credit card, applicants must be UK residents6. For the personal current account, applicants must be resident in the UK3. Credit cannot be requested during the application process, so there is no overdraft decision to make at that stage16.

There are some restrictions worth knowing about once you are a customer. Zempler will only ever restrict an account to protect its customers, or because of a legal obligation7. Personal accounts have annual cash deposit limits, and if you opened your account after 30 November 2022, your annual limit renews based on your account start date15.

The Creditbuilder product has its own condition: you cannot change your Zempler account while Creditbuilder is active, and you must close it by paying it off in full8.

Proving your identity and address when you apply

Most applications are verified electronically. If Zempler cannot verify your identity and address details during the application, it will request documents from you by personalised email before it can open the account3.

The documents Zempler accepts as proof of identity include:

  • A passport from any country, which must be valid (UK passports do not need to be signed)
  • A UK driving licence, provisional or full, with the front and back of the card
  • An EU driving licence with both sides
  • An EEA member state ID card
  • A firearms certificate or shotgun licence with both sides
  • A Northern Ireland electoral ID card
  • A construction industry scheme card
  • A military ID card18

A passport is accepted as proof of identity but not as proof of address, so a separate document is needed for the address check19.

Once you are up and running, adding a new payee in the app requires you to verify yourself, either by re-entering your password or by using biometrics20. Confirmation of Payee checks apply to payments going out, whether by direct payment or standing order, and the receiving bank will need to confirm your name matches your Zempler account21. If you receive a payment that needs verifying, the document you provide must clearly show who paid you, what the payment is for, and the sender and recipient's sort code and account number15.

Banking with Zempler: app, Online Banking and the Post Office

Zempler is an app and online bank rather than a branch bank. The app is available on the iOS App Store and Google Play, and Online Banking lets you track spending and see statements on the go, use itemised billing to track expenses, and make payments22.

Payments can be made in the app or in Online Banking, and Online Banking supports both immediate payments and payments set up for the future20. Faster Payments can be sent to any UK bank account20.

Cash is handled through the Post Office. You can deposit cash over the counter at any UK Post Office branch15. Zempler does not allow customers to deposit cash into their account with a cheque10.

Card management is done in the app. You can change your PIN at an ATM cash machine23. If your card is lost or stolen, Zempler will cancel it and re-issue a new one to arrive at your current address within three to five working days, and it says immediate action will be taken to protect the money in your card account24. Replacement cards generally take 3 to 5 working days to arrive23. Your card will be sent to your current address around 30 days before expiry25.

If someone holding a Zempler account dies, the bank asks for the death certificate or coroner's certificate, proof of identity, a separate document proving home address, and the will if available with the executors' details and ID19.

Scams, fraud claims and making a complaint

Zempler has published its approach to authorised push payment scams, and it has updated section 12 of its terms and conditions to reflect customers' rights under the new reimbursement requirements2.

If you think you have paid a scammer, Zempler's guidance is to call 0330 024 0924, or from abroad on +44 207 153 8940, as soon as you realise what has happened. Check your statements, contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or through their website, and obtain a crime reference number to give to the bank2. Zempler states that all instances of fraud should be reported to the police with a crime reference number provided26.

Claims are processed within 5 working days and, if approved, reimbursed within that time. Where extra information is needed, it can take up to 35 business days to resolve a claim26. Zempler applies a levy to each claim, which is deducted from the refund, but customers with a vulnerability that has a material impact on their ability to protect themselves from a scam will not be required to pay it26. The current levy amount is set out in Zempler's own terms and conditions and fee information5.

When assessing a claim, Zempler considers evidence of first-party fraud, your vulnerability, evidence of gross negligence, and whether the claim qualified under the reimbursement requirement26. It may share relevant information such as personal or account details with the receiving firm, with your permission, and may share case details with the police after a claim is raised26.

On reporting suspicious messages, Zempler asks customers to forward them to its cybersecurity experts without opening attachments or clicking links28. It has warned about fake emails pretending to be from Zempler Bank about suspicious activity on a customer account, and says customers should not call the number in the email but use the contact us page instead28. A common tactic in safe account scams is replicating the Caller ID of the organisation, so a call or text could appear to come from Zempler Bank. If you are ever unsure, hang up and call the bank back29.

If a complaint is not resolved to your satisfaction, Zempler asks you to contact its complaints team in the first instance, and then the Financial Ombudsman Service26. The ombudsman service is free to consumers. In the first quarter of 2026/27 it opened 77 complaints about money remittance30.

How your money is protected

Zempler is authorised by the FCA under reference 671140, with a status effective date of 5 February 20164. It appears on the Bank of England's list of banks incorporated in the UK authorised to accept deposits, as of 1 September 202618. The company is active on the Companies House register, company number 04947027, incorporated on 29 October 200331.

The FCA Register lists previous names including Cashplus Bank, Cashplus, Capital Recovery Solutions, APS Financial and Advanced Payment Solutions Limited4. That matters if you held a Cashplus account: it is the same bank and the same licence under a new name.

Because Zempler is a UK-authorised bank, deposits are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. The FSCS advises anyone who has been scammed to speak to their bank, building society or credit union, which can protect and reimburse victims of certain types of fraud, and to report it to Action Fraud32.

For payments, the reimbursement rules depend on the system used. You can ask for a refund under the FPS Reimbursement Rules if the payment was made using Faster Payments, or under the CHAPS Reimbursement Rules if it was made using CHAPS33. The reimbursement requirement covers both Faster Payments and CHAPS34.

If you are struggling with debt, including debt built up through fraud, free and impartial help is available from debt advice charities. Business Debtline publishes guidance on dealing with fraud in England and Wales and in Scotland33.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zempler the same as Cashplus?

Yes. Zempler Bank is the name Cashplus Bank now trades under. The FCA Register lists Cashplus Bank, Cashplus, Capital Recovery Solutions, APS Financial and Advanced Payment Solutions Limited as previous names of the firm, which is authorised under reference 671140. If you held a Cashplus account, it is the same bank and the same licence, and your account terms carry over under the Zempler name.

Does Zempler pay interest on personal current accounts?

No. Zempler states plainly that it does not pay interest on its personal current accounts, and the same applies to its Activeplus personal account. If earning interest on your balance matters to you, a current account that pays interest, or a separate savings account, would be the route to look at. Zempler's own site has the current terms.

Can I pay cash into a Zempler account?

Yes, by depositing cash over the counter at any UK Post Office. Zempler does not accept cash deposits by cheque, and its Activeplus account states that customers cannot deposit cash into their account with a cheque. Personal accounts have annual cash deposit limits, and sole traders who need higher limits are pointed towards a business account instead.

Does Zempler accept cheques?

Zempler does not accept cheque payments on its credit card, alongside credit card and cash payments. For day to day banking, payments go through the app or Online Banking, and Faster Payments can be sent to any UK bank account. If you regularly pay in cheques, check the current terms on Zempler's site before relying on it.

How do I report a scam to Zempler?

Call Zempler on 0330 024 0924, or from abroad on +44 207 153 8940, as soon as you realise you may have paid a scammer. You can also forward suspicious emails or texts to the bank's cybersecurity experts without opening attachments or clicking links. Zempler asks customers to report all fraud to the police and provide a crime reference number.

How long does a new Zempler card take to arrive?

Zempler says a new card arrives in 3 to 5 working days after your application, and replacement cards take the same 3 to 5 working days. Its service information page gives a longer average of 6.8 days for a bank card, with 99% of customers receiving theirs within 49 days. Replacement cards are sent to your current address around 30 days before expiry.

Can I switch my current account to Zempler using the Current Account Switch Service?

Zempler supports the free Current Account Switch Service, which it says takes 7 days. The balance on your old account is transferred automatically, and BACS and Faster Payments sent to the old account are redirected. Account opening and switching are separate processes, and Zempler carries out its own security checks before a switch date is agreed. Personal current accounts are temporarily closed to new applicants.
